An exclusive lodge catering primarily for scuba divers wanting luxury, style, comfort, exclusive service, gourmet meals and fine wines. This is the place to be seen, particularly in designer clothes.

Location

West coast of the island of Pemba, north of Zanzibar. Transfer from Pemba airport is by car & boat and takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Accommodation

The 16 “rooms” are luxurious en-suite tents, on stilted hardwood decks with private balconies which have sweeping views over the beach & ocean. They have min-bars and ceiling fans, fine furnishings and provide a an exceptional level of comfort. Four of the rooms are “Suites” with their own private chill-out deck and plunge pool.

Facilities

The restaurant serves the finest of foods. There are 3 bars, one adjacent to the restaurant, one by the pool and another located on the 200 metre jetty with a sun deck. The Jetty Bar also serves barbeques. There is a dive centre offering a wide range of marine activities. A shop sells Fundu Lagoons own clothing as well as exclusive cosmetics, jewellery and African artifacts. In addition, Fundu Lagoon has a wonderful spa treatment room adjacent to the pool area which overlooks the jungle, where a variety of massages and beauty treatments are available.

The Manta Resort

The Manta Resort has been transformed from a rather run-down place in to a very desirable destination with renovated and new rooms and well cared for tropical gardens.

Location

At the very north of Pemba Island, about 1 hour drive from Pemba Airport. It is relatively isolated, a bonus for those wanting peace and tranquillity

Accommodation

There are villas and room sin different categories. There are 6 newly built sea front villas offering very spacious, en-suite, airconditioned accommodation. Each has a king size bed and terrace with ocean views. The 4 en-suite Superior Garden Rooms have 4 poster beds and airconditioning with ocean glimpses through the tropical gardens. They are in chalets with 2 rooms in each and one has an interconnecting door. The en-suite Garden Rooms, in individual thatched bungalows, offer good value for money with king size beds and spacious balcony looking over the gardens.

Facilities

The main eating area is on the verandah of the main building overlooking the ocean, but meals are often served near the pool or beach area. There is a beach bar, though drinks are served in any location on the site. There is a dive centre and spa and one spa treatment per day is included in their All Inclusive package. The Resort arranges a wide variety of marine and land based expeditions, including trips to deserted beaches and to a protected tropical forest.

Hotel Prices: Unless indicated, the rates given for each hotel are based on standard rooms in low season, and are per person, sharing in a twin or double room. Most beach hotels are on a half board basis as the alternatives for evening meals are not easily accessible.
